Ayodhya verdict - On the lighter side

Posted by Ooglers Googlers Thursday, September 30, 2010

18 years of wait, billions of rupees spent and eons of playing with emotions of Indian public, the Indian judicial system took one of the boldest decision I will probably see in my lifetime. I am not the very "political" types, but something of this paramount size definitely caught my attention while I scribe from seven seas across the place where this all started.

Let me try to understand the real deal behind it. A land, rather temple claimed by Hindus to be the place where Lord Ram's birth took place in the holy city of Ayodhya. Ok, I do remember watching Ramanand Sagar's epic Ramayan that used to bring the entire country to a halt on Sunday mornings between 9:30 and 10:30 AM. On the other hand, the same place claimed by the Muslim sect to be theirs where the Babri mosque stands today. Add to this potent mix, a third element Nirmohi Akhara that also claims this to be the place which should be handed to them.

KUDOS to the court system that took the decision to split and equally share the land among all three parties. This way it satisfies everyone (you can think it otherwise). Reminds me of the batwara from a typical Indian television soap over a big Haveli or a huge business empire. How Bollywoodish!

A friend of mine quoted on his facebook page, that the best way to keep everyone quite from this issue would have been to declare the land and all associated assets as National Historic site. Spend couple of more millions to erect a marble statue of the father of nation Mahatma Gandhi. Once done, simply sit back and enjoy the peace as no one would dare to challenge the aura and presence of Gandhiji there. Was it really that simple to bring this situation under control?

With Commonwealth games taking all the media attention these days and the simmering battle brewing between the Indian and Australian cricket team for Test Cricket supremacy someone had to bring the TRP ratings down. They very well did it by elevating the Ayodhya issue and also involving the creme da la creme of Bollywood (KJO should be looking to get a script from these events - A Shahrukh Khan starter perhaps).

For the common masses, it's life as usual as the creator (Bhrama), the destroyer (Shiva), the caretaker (Vishnu) and Allah can easily be approached not only in temples and mosques, but also at a cell phone near you (Do we have apps for the gods on iPad yet?). Frightened parents, troubled middle class business workers who closed the shutters down in anticipation of trouble and hopefully empty roads were the norm of the day.

For the Gen X and Gen Y, it's a wake up call to get their act together and unanimously call out acts and deeds that reflect the true emotions of a nation and not people divided by the same beliefs that different religions preach in their own terms.

As for me, I am simply the messenger to bring a lighter moment in every reader of this blogs life. Only if Sehwag and Dhoni would have hung on to the catch of Shane Watson, he may just become the limelight and the subjective element of TRP ratings for tomorrow's dailies and the idiot box.
