Living far from home and family across the seven seas always brings tears in your eyes when it's a matter of celebration or being close to the near and dear ones during difficult times. It's been nearly 6 years for both Dipti and me living together here in US after our marriage. Dipti still remembers the day when the mere thought of being alone without family and friends would draw her to be sad and gloomy.
Fortunately, we are blessed with gem of friends that are at an arms stretch standing with us during all good and bad times. From having dinner together to going out for movies, from the boys night out to the wild girls night out, from shopping sprees to talking hearts out, from being mothers to running for each other, there is no dimension that we can think of not experiencing with our friends.
So when it came to yet another big event of our life (expecting our 2nd child), everyone was elated and decided to do something for the baby shower that will be a surprise for Dipti. I'd say it's become customary for the husband to eventually become part of the preparations and get a sneak preview of the surprise elements that the Mother-to-be friends are preparing for. I wasn't far enough and was able to permeate into the defenses of the plan that Dipti's friends were cooking. It's a different story that I'd pen down later of how it all happened.
With hectic work schedules and little ones by their sides, our friends did not leave any single weekend evenings without getting together and embarking their journey of the surprise. From many rehearsals to change in plans of dance steps, the final outcome was nothing less than spectacular. On D-Day (10/16), we were left in awe when we witnessed our friends enacting with masks of our family members, only to bring tears of joys in Dipti's eyes.
With many interesting games that involved not only the mothers, but also the fathers was simply fun to watch. As day continued and the joys of welcoming the new baby were unfolded, the love for our friends simply grew exponentially. Truly, we are blessed with friends that deserve a standing ovation for all the hard work and dedication they put for making sure that this day will be remembered throughout our lives. We will surely have hilarious and interesting stories to pass on to our next generation.
